Stourbridge recorded a fine win over their Norfolk visitors in a game that was never quite as one-sided as the scoreline suggests.

After last weekend's morale-boosting victory over League leaders Skelmersdale United, manager Gary Hackett had the rare luxury of being able to name an unchanged team, whilst he was also given a boost with the return of Jordan Fitzpatrick to the substitute's bench after a hamstring strain.

The Glassboys got off to a perfect start with just 7 minutes on the clock. Former Glassboy Henry Eze was forced to concede a corner under pressure from Josh Morgan-Parker and from Drew Canavan's flag kick, Will Richards got ahead of his marker at the near post to power in a header which Alex Street in the Linnets goal parried but could not prevent from crossing the line.

Stung by this blow, the visitors went on to control much of the ensuing 20 minutes or so, without seriously testing Dean Coleman beyond one cross from Michael Frew which Coleman touched onto the post and behind for a corner after 24 minutes.

Lynn put together some good passing moves, but floundered against a Stourbridge back four which dealt comfortably with most of their attacks, although just after the half hour Kyle Haynes (twice) and Chris Knight had to break up play as the Stourbridge defence momentarily looked uncomfortable.

At the other end, a Drew Canavan shot from 20 yards on 35 minutes was held comfortably by Street and the Glassboys would have settled for the single-goal cushion at the interval, given the pattern of the game.

However, on the stroke of half time, George Bowerman got away down the right wing, before exchanging passes with Morgan-Parker, cutting inside and steering a low shot into the bottom corner as Street came out to meet him. The timing was impeccable as there was barely time to kick off again before the half time whistle.

There were early half-chances for the Glassboys after the break - Street rushing out to block after Morgan-Parker had got clear and then tipping over a Leon Broadhurst header from Morgan-Parker's cross, but King's Lynn were far from beaten and began to get more of a foothold in the game as it opened up.

On 59 minutes, Coleman was forced to push wide a driven effort from distance by David Bell, and from the corner that followed he saved well again from Steve Spriggs's shot.

However, the third Stourbridge goal that looked necessary to calm any nerves came on 63 minutes. Morgan-Parker got the better of Eze, having hustled and harried the big defender all afternoon, and bore down on Street before lobbing the ball cleverly over him and watching it bounce in slow motion into the net.

The Linnets continued to push forward and on 74 minutes came close when a low ball across the face of goal just eluded the outstretched leg of the onrushing Frew, whilst with just two minutes on the clock Coleman had the final word, saving a prodded close-range shot that was creeping into the bottom corner.

The win moves the Glassboys up one place to 9th in the Premier Division table, just two points off the play-off places, and leaves them well set for the Christmas period.

Stourbridge: Coleman, Morgan-Parker, Brown (Till 86), Morris, Richards, Geohaghon, Haynes (Ramsey-Dickson 70), Broadhurst, Bowerman (Benbow 78), Canavan, Knight.

Unused substitutes: Smikle, Fitzpatrick.

Attendance: 351.
