Looking to make amends for two successive defeats, manager Gary Hackett made two changes to last Saturday's starting line-up. Luke Benbow's hamstring strain meant he was only able to take a place on the bench, whilst Exodus Geohaghon was also ruled out through injury. Jordan Fitzpatrick and Kayelden Brown replaced them.
The Glassboys made a strong start to the game, taking a 4th minute lead through Kayelden Brown. The home defence failed to deal with a Drew Canavan free kick and Brown was on hand to hammer the loose ball home.
Play was scrappy for a while after that, with neither keeper called into serious action, but Stourbridge were to strengthen their grip on the game after 28 minutes when Canavan set up Brian Smikle and his low shot from just inside the area beat Andy Stevens in the home goal.
However, the home side hit back rapidly and that advantage was wiped out before half time. First a scrambled effort from Nathan Fox after 35 minutes halved the arrears, and then Ryan Robbins latched onto a header from Dalton Bettles to beat Dean Coleman with a thumping shot six minutes later.
Undeterred, Stourbridge showed great resilience after the break to put that double blow behind them. Canavan saw a shot saved by Stevens, and then Fitzpatrick's attempt cleared the crossbar, whilst at the other end Coleman was relieved to see Robbins's shot drift well wide from a good position.
Although generally Stamford were having more of the game, the Glassboys were still a threat and had chances to re-establish the lead as Brown saw a header well saved just before the hour mark and Reece Hales shot just over on 75 minutes.
But it was Brown again on 77 minutes who fired in what proved to be the winner, after clever work from substitute Benbow gave him the chance to finish past Stevens.
There was still time for Stamford to hit back, but the Glassboys defence held firm and Canavan could have sealed the points five minutes from time only to see his shot clear the crossbar.
Despite picking up three points, Stourbridge remain in 12th place in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division table.
