For the second time already this season, summer signing Will Richards grabbed the all-important match winning goal as Gary Hackett’s men collected a confidence boosting victory to get back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back losses in the leagu

With the game goal-less, Richards was moved from centre-half to up-front after 63 minutes following a reshuffle and he came up trumps eleven minutes later as Stourbridge finally found a way through a stubborn visitors defence.

The Buckinghamshire outfit shaded the opening exchanges on their first visit to the War Memorial Athletic Ground. In the 2nd minute James Dobson advanced through the left channel area before hitting a drive from distance that Dean Coleman was equal to and then six minutes later Ashley Smith supplied a low cross from the right and Lewis Driver got a touch at the near post, but Coleman was able to save down at the foot of his left-hand upright. Stourbridge began to settle and in the 13th minute the lively Roly Agbor saw his shot from the edge of the box hit a defender, but the ball flew into the path of Sean Geddes on the left-hand side of the area whose low angled drive was deflected past the far post for a corner. Two minutes later Ryan Rowe clipped a ball into the run of Drew Canavan through the right channel area and as the ball sat up, he tried an early lob however his effort flew off-target. The home side continued to push Burnham back and in the 22nd minute a goal-kick from Coleman found Rowe and he fed Luke Benbow who managed to work an opening, but he cracked his shot straight at Michael Watkins in the visitors goal. Eight minutes later Leon Broadhurst tucked a pass into Agbor and his flick saw Rowe steal in ahead of the keeper to reach the ball first, but he ran it out of play.

A heavy downpour greeted the players as they returned to the field for the second period and it nearly proved costly for the hosts within a minute of the re-start as Ryan Blake delivered over a deep cross from the right and Henry Eze slipped allowing Dobson a free header which drifted over Coleman and hit the crossbar to the relief of the home support. Burnham threatened again two minutes later with Duane Lee finding Ashley Smith who turned and hit a low 25-yard shot that Coleman got safely behind. Just past the hour-mark Aaron Drake replaced Rowe and he slotted in at right-back with Eze restored to the centre of the defence and Richards moved up alongside Benbow. The move paid off with 74 minutes played as Jamie Oliver slipped the ball out to Agbor on the left and he used his pace to check inside and supply a low cross into the middle where Richards did well to divert the ball beyond the reach of Watkins and into the far corner of the net. The home side pressed again three minutes later with Richards combining with sub Jordan Fitzpatrick and he fed Benbow on the right-hand side of the area and although he was half-stopped, the ball rolled to Fitzpatrick and he drilled in a shot that Watkins parried. With eight minutes left Benbow threaded a pass through to Geddes on the right and he fizzed a low centre across the face of the goal that just evaded George Washbourne and then in the closing stages Canavan fed Benbow on the right-hand side of the area and his driven shot was blocked by Watkins by his near post and then soon afterwards Canavan pulled the ball back low from the right-hand by-line, however Washbourne lifted his close range effort over the bar. Burnham had offered little threat after falling behind, but in stoppage time sub Danny Burnell fired a shot into the side-netting as the visitors sought a last gasp equaliser that would have been harsh on The Glassboys in the circumstances.
