The Glassboys’ poor Evo-Stik Premier form continued with defeat at NANTWICH TOWN.

A goal in either half saw Nantwich pick up the three points at the Weaver Stadium and the result sees Stour drop to 11th in the league table.

Nantwich were well on top for much of the first half and the first chance fell to the hosts after 5 minutes with Clayton McDonald’s header needing to be palmed away by Matt Gould.

David Forbes then had an effort cleared off the line after a free-kick into the box had fallen to his feet, which beat Gould but it looked to be cleared off the line by McCone.

Nantwich thought they had taken the lead in the 12th minute as Harry Clayton’s shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced down but no goal was given.

The home side did go ahead eight minutes later, however, as Clayton was played through on goal through the left channel area and he slotted well past Gould.

Benbow tried an overhead kick just after the break which went wide and boss Gary Hackett then introduced returning winger Matt Dodd who replaced the limping Stuart Pierpoint.

Matt Bell went close with an effort for Nantwich but the Dabbers doubled their lead in the 67th minute.

Substitute Jordan Cole received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and curled his shot past Gould.

Curtis Strong went close to a third goal for the hosts, but his low shot was cleared off the line by Paul McCone.

Josh Green replaced Benbow and Josh Cooke came on for Kyle Perry but the Glassboys were unable to get back into the game.

Play-off hopefuls Farsley Celtic are next up for Stour as they visit the War Memorial Ground on Saturday, kick-off is at 3pm.

Stourbridge: Gould, Westlake, Christophorou, McCone, Pierpoint (Dodd 50), Forde, Tonks, Broadhurst, Perry (Cooke 79), Benbow (Green 71), Shearer. Subs not used: Marsh, Collingridge.
