MATCH PREVIEW

Stourbridge will be looking to keep their winning streak going on Monday night when they entertain struggling BEDWORTH UNITED at the War Memorial Athletic Ground (kick-off 7-45 pm).

The Greenbacks returned to step 3 of the non-league pyramid for this campaign following two seasons at the lower level by finishing 4th in the Evo-stik League NPL Division 1 South last season before securing promotion via the play-offs. They defeated Chasetown 2 - 1 in the semi-final at The Oval and then overcame Stamford AFC at home in the Final, winning 2 - 1 after extra-time.

The Warwickshire outfit, without the resources available to some clubs at this level, have found life tough so far this season, including suffering an early exit from the F A Cup at the hands of step 6 side Atherstone Town.

They currently lie at the foot of the table and are still searching for their first league victory and they will have been disappointed to have let a two-goal lead slip against Hitchin Town on Saturday when the visitors battled back to gain a 2 - 2 draw at The Oval.

Their current record reads played 10, won 0, drew 3 and lost 7 with 8 goals scored and 24 conceded. Their most notable result was a 1 - 1 draw away at Biggleswade Town in August. (The Waders are still unbeaten in the League, but have drawn 6 out of 9 matches).

The Greenbacks have lost the services of experienced ex-Hednesford goalkeeper Dan Crane to Bromsgrove Sporting in the last week, but better news for Greenbacks fans is the return of livewire attacker Levi Rowley after a short spell with Chasetown with the former Walsall youngster having scored the goal that won promotion for the Warwickshire club in May.

Also in the Bedworth ranks, veteran striker Iyseden Christie may now be in his 40's but he still provides a strong presence up-front and can make life hard for defenders.

While the Glassboys may start Monday's encounter as favourites, boss Gary Hackett will sound a note of caution to his players knowing that the visitors will battle gamely in the search to turn their season around and that our attitude and approach must be right.

Jake Evans is added to the squad for the Bedworth game with Darryl Westlake set to miss out through injury.

Our two clubs have met on many occasions in the past with Bedworth frequent visitors to Amblecote in the 1990’s in particular, but the 2012/13 campaign was the last time we played each other. Bedworth headed here in late October 2012 while Stourbridge were enduring a sticky patch and went home 1 – 0 victors. However by the time that the two sides met in the return game in April 2013, it was a completely different situation. Stourbridge by then were in a rich vein of form and heading towards the play-offs while Bedworth were battling in vain to avoid the drop. Stourbridge ran out 3 – 0 winners thanks to a Ben Mackey brace and a goal for Luke Benbow.
