Keren Allen, Tara Salt and Niamh Murphy (pictured above) all netted their first Glassgirls goals as a much-improved second half display proved too much for their lower-league opponents.
But manager Andy Fisher preferred to concentrate on factors other then the scoreline after the game.
“Forget the result, we got what we needed out of today’s match. There were things we wanted to work on after the first few friendlies, areas where we knew there was room for improvement, and in that sense it’s proved to be a valuable afternoon.
“Our fitness told as much as anything late on, which is pleasing because that’s going to be more of a factor against stronger teams this season.
“We didn’t take our chances in the first half but we were better after the break, and our movement and decision-making was also something that pleased me.”
Alex Nicklin’s 3rd minute goal put the Glassgirls on their way, and a three-goal burst midway through the half from Gee Thacker, Allen – after striding out of defence with the ball and letting fly from 25 yards – and then Thacker again made it 4-0 at the break.
Allen slammed in a fifth shortly after the restart, but it was in the last 25 minutes that the floodgates really opened as Stourbridge began to over-run a home side who had shown plenty of grit and resistance.
Thacker’s cross found it’s way in at the far post, Ruby Meeson capitalised on a Millie Rogers shot which came back off the post, and the Amy Plimmer’s corner came off the head of a Westfields player to make it 8-0.
Carly Aldred dribbled though and produced a calm finish for the ninth, before Rogers at last earned a reward for all her hard work as she turned in Murphy’s low cross for the tenth.
Plimmer then curled a shot in from 20 yards, Salt deceived the keeper with a cross that mirrored Thacker’s earlier effort, Murphy bundled in from close range, Aldred picked her spot with a low drive from the edge of the area, and Salt again rounded off the scoring as she tapped in on the line after the keeper had made a fine save – one of several, truth be told – from Nicklin’s header.
The Glassgirls have no match next Sunday with the scheduled friendly against Stoke City Reserves being cancelled, but it is anticipated that a final warm-up fixture will be arranged for Sunday 29th August.
