The Glassgirls sealed their place for promotion yesterday after a 6-2 win away against Walsall Development Swifts. The Ladies had a decent start and soon settled into their game with a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes with a cracking header from Tash Berry from a corner. Berry then went on to strike again with a low cross supplied from Sarah Lojko, where Berry met the ball in the 6 yard box for the keeper to fetch outside the bottom right hand side of the net. However, Walsall fought back and scored two brilliant goals from outside the box to make things level.
Within minutes Stourbridge came back fighting and increased the tempo of their game, creating space and sharp precise passes through the whole team. The realisation from the Ladies then took them on to score with a superb strike from Sarah Lojko. The two goals which Stourbridge conceded riled up the Ladies and therefore made them even more determined to control the game. This was seen through a further two goals within the first half scored by Tash Berry to secure her hat trick from a cross delivered Emily Drewett and the fifth by Charlie Hicklin.
At 5-2 the Ladies did not stop in the second half, they continued to pressure Walsall who did in fact make it awkward to play against through their tactic of repetitive balls played long. However, the Ladies drove on to score a sixth goal from Sarah Lojko which secured the game. The battle continued and both teams played with endeavour until the final whistle. Stourbridge had many goal scoring opportunities in the game with a fantastic strike by Amy Pooler which was denied by the crossbar.
The Ladies are now hoping to win the title. Hopes of bringing home the trophy will be seen through an exciting rival match away next Sunday against top of the league, Coundon Court. The Glassgirls will be determined to end Coundon's unbeaten record this season and therefore make the battle for league champions even more interesting.
